About the Awards
A glittering, high quality occasion, attended by key decision makers from across the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent, The Maritime Standard Awards recognise the achievements of the industry’s outstanding performers and celebrate and reward their successes. The Maritime Standard (TMS) Awards have earned the right to be referred to as the region’s premiere shipping and maritime awards event. They were in fact the only maritime Awards to be held in person in 2020.
All of the Awards that have taken place to date have been held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, underlining the esteem in which they are held. Also, they have historically been staged at the prestigious Atlantis Ballroom, on The Palm, Dubai.
The 2020 Awards were held in person at the Dubai World Trade Centre, which was selected as a venue where the government’s strict guidelines for holding events of this type were embedded. The confidence in the venue and TMS as the organiser was reflected in an attendance of over 400 people on the night, an exceptional figure in the circumstances which shows how much belief the industry has in TMS.
The 2020 Awards saw many well-deserved presentations including recognition of contributions made during the pandemic. In total, 20 awards were handed to individuals and companies following the deliberations of the judging panel. In addition to the awards determined by the judging panel, there were a number of special awards presented by the TMS team for particularly impressive levels of performance. The Maritime Standard Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Saadi Al Rais head of the Ras Hassan Saadi group; The Personality of the Year Award was given to Abdullah Bin Damithan, Chief Operating Officer, DP World; The Excellence in Shipping Award went to Eng. Abdulaziz Abdulrahman, President, Bahri Shipmanagement; while the Outstanding Achievement Award was presented to Captain SR Patnaik, CEO of International Shipping & Logistics.
Other awards selected by The Maritime Standard included Noura Al Dhaheri, CEO of Maqta Gateway, who was the recipient of the Woman in Shipping award, and Ramee Rashid of Seamaster Maritime who was named Young Person in Shipping. The winner of the Deal of the Year was ADNOC L&S, while Jesper Kjaedegaard was presented with the Editor’s Choice Award.
Work is already well underway in preparation for The Maritime Standard Awards 2021. They will take place on November 22nd in Dubai at a five-star venue to be announced in the near future.
